Good food habits

 “The secret of success in life is to eat what you like and let the food fight it out inside”

In this write up, we shall discuss about the correct food type.Not only the consumption of healthy food but also it’s quantity and the right time to eat are necessary. We should consume food according to our body nature and to identify it, we need to consult an Ayurvedic Consultant.

In our ancient Indian texts, it is stated that “We Become what We Eat” Now here we shall talk about the three gunas of food according to our scriptures.

1. Satvik food- Satvik food is the one that purifies the body and gives peace to the mind. Cooked food must be consumed within 3-4 hours.

Examples – Fresh fruits, green leafy vegetables, almonds etc., grains and fresh milk.

2. Rajsic food These foods motivate the body and brain to function. Their excessive intake brings hyperactivity, restlessness, anger, irritability, insomnia etc. to the body. Unsweetened foods are Rajasic.

Example – Spicy food, onion, garlic, tea, coffee and fried foods.

3. Tamsic food Tamasic foods make the body and mind sluggish. Excessive intake of these causes inertia, confusion and disorientation. Rotten, reheated , oily and food containing artificial preservatives fall under this category.

Example – Non-vegetarian diet, stale food, excessive fat intake, oily and highly sweet food.

We must be very careful while choosing what to eat to retain a healthy body and mind. While Excessive eating slows down the body’s functions, when eating in small quantities, the body does not get adequate nutrients. Most of the time, inspite of eating full, we don’t stop ourselves from the want of delicious food. We can’t determine the right amount of food by measurement, but we have to listen to our body carefully, It knows when to stop.

Maybe we are having the right quantity and the right type of food, but if we are irregular with our time, then the body’s entire natural system will become upset. Therefore, we should eat at a daily and regular interval at the same time.

It is said that the condition of the person’s food and the person who cooks it also affects food. The energy in that food will be reduced by the food when made by any angry person. Similarly that made with the feelings of love, satisfaction and gratitude is rich in positivity.

Therefore, be careful with what, how much and when you eat.
